Frequently asked questions

We believe in providing clear, compassionate support during your postpartum journey. Our approach is warm, judgment-free, and evidence-based, ensuring you feel confident and cared for. Here are some of the questions we hear most often from new parents.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, Fourth + Home is Carrot approved, and I can provide a superbill for many other insurance reimbursement programs.

What does a postpartum doula actually do?

A postpartum doula provides in-home support for families in the early weeks after birth. This includes helping parents rest, recover, and feel confident with newborn care and feeding, offering gentle help around the home, practical guidance, and steady emotional support.

How is a postpartum doula different from a nanny or babysitter?

A postpartum doula focuses on supporting the entire family during the postpartum period, nurturing the parents so they can confidently care for their new baby. This differs from a nanny or babysitter, whose primary role is direct childcare when parents are absent.

Do you help with breastfeeding or bottle-feeding?

Yes, I offer support and guidance for breastfeeding, pumping, and bottle-feeding. Lactation certification is in progress and will become a dedicated service line.

What happens during a typical visit?

During a typical visit, I provide calm, in-home support tailored to your family's needs. This can include newborn care, feeding support, light household tasks, emotional support, and practical guidance. We adapt to your needs for that specific day.

How long are visits, and how often can you come?

I currently offer daytime support packages with flexible visit lengths of up to 4 hours, arranged as often as your family needs.

Do you offer overnight support?

Currently, Fourth + Home offers daytime support packages.

When should we book postpartum support?

It's generally recommended to book postpartum support during your pregnancy, often after the first trimester, to ensure availability and allow time for a prenatal postpartum planning session.

Do you work with families who already have older children?

Yes, I support families with older children, helping to integrate the new baby into family life and manage the transition for everyone.

What areas do you serve?

Fourth + Home serves the South Hills of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities

What if I’m not sure how much support I need?

We can discuss your needs during a complimentary consultation or a prenatal postpartum planning session to determine the best support package for your family.

How do your daytime visits work?

Daytime visits are designed to provide flexible, in-home support. We collaborate to prioritize your needs for each visit, whether it's newborn care, feeding support, light household assistance, or simply a chance for you to rest.

What’s included in each visit?

Each visit includes a combination of hands-on newborn care, feeding support (breastfeeding, pumping, bottle-feeding), light household tasks (e.g., laundry, meal prep), emotional support, evidence-based information, and a judgment-free space for you to feel supported.

How flexible are you during a visit — do we choose what we need that day?

Absolutely. My support is entirely client-led. We work together to decide what your family needs most on any given day.

Do you offer single visits or only packages?

Fourth + Home primarily offers daytime support packages, with single visits available based on availability and a 3‑hour minimum.

Can we mix and match visit times or spread them out over several weeks?

Yes, our packages are designed to be flexible. We can customize visit times and spread them out over several weeks to best suit your family's recovery and adjustment period.
